Keynote Speaker: Dr. Otto Kolbinger
Dr. Otto Kolbinger currently works as a post-doctoral research associate at the Chair of Performance Analysis and Sport Informatics at the Technical University of Munich. His current projects focus on the evolution of rules in game sports with emphasis on trivial offenses and technological officiating aids. Further, he serves as consultant for several data science projects of a leading German sports magazine.
Invited Session Text Mining:
In sport science – and performance analysis in particular – there are various scenarios in which valuable information is provided as unstructured text data: Professional scouts provide extensive scouting reports for promising athletes, experts provide elaborated previews for upcoming events, and huge crowds share their opinions and feelings about on-going events. Deriving information from such unstructured text corpora in an effective manner is possible by deploying different text mining techniques, which already builds a significant part of the methodological spectrum in various research areas (e.g. economics, public health). In this invited session, we want to highlight how different text mining approaches have already been applied in performance analysis to detect and predict different events as well as to evaluate technological officiating aids. In addition, we give an outlook how else this innovative methodology could be deployed to provide support for practitioners in sport.
13th WCPAS2022 & 13th IACSS – Postponement 2022
Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,
After recent engagement with both members of the International Society of Performance Analysis of Sport (ISPAS) and the International Association of Computer Science in Sport (IACSS), the organising committee have taken into consideration members wishes. To this end we, the organizing committee, have a news update. It may not surprise you to hear that the 13th World Congress of Performance Analysis of Sport (WCPAS XIII) & 13th International Symposium on Computer Science in Sport will be postponed once more, till 2022 in order to be held in-person on the 10-13 September in Vienna, Austria.
However, as promised in our update letter regarding possible contingencies and to give the authors who have already submitted their contributions a platform to present their work, we will, in addition to postponing the WCPAS&IACSS to 2022, be holding a virtual joint ISPAS and IACSS conference, titled the 9th International Performance Analysis Workshop and Conference & 5th IACSS Conference on the 30 and 31 August 2021.
The theme for this virtual conference and workshop is to include how computer scientists and performance analysts can work together to solve both applied and research-based problems and involve a mixture of keynote presentations, interactive workshops and both oral and e-poster presentations.
Final submission for abstract deadline for the 2021 conference is 15th April 2021 (follow process here: https://wcpas2021.univie.ac.at/registration/abstract-paper-submission/). Delegates who submitted abstracts to the original event can decide to present at this joint workshop and conference in 2021 or defer the joint congress in 2022.
We aim to release the following key information by end of April: (1) Revised pricing structure to reflect the virtual conference, (2) Keynote speakers, and (3) New official website for the 9th International Performance Analysis Workshop and Conference & 5th IACSS Conference.

If you would like your abstract to be considered for the online conference in 2021 or you would like your abstract to be considered for the congress in 2022 we ask you to Email us at wcpas-iacss2021.sportscience@univie.ac.at, stating the title of the abstract as well as stating which year you would like to present.
It is hoped that this revised structure will enhance the ability of members to participate in both events and strengthen as well as promote collaborations in this emerging area of research and practice.
Further clarifications will be provided through announcements when more information becomes available however we wanted to inform members as swiftly as possible. Therefore, please be aware that the information contained on the current website will take some time to reflect the changes presented in this email.

Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,
We, the organizational committee, are as excited as ever for the upcoming WCPAS&IACSS in September 2021. Currently however, the situation regarding COVID-19, its progression and the potential state of the situation in 2021 is still unclear. Even though we plan to hold the WCPAS&IACSS in physical form in Vienna, in the name of foresight we are starting to plan for the unfortunate, if unlikely, contingency of having to hold the Joint-Congress in digital form. This means that regardless of the situation in the potential future the WCPAS&IACSS will be held, not postponed or cancelled.
As always, we look forward to a productive and fruitful congress and hope we can welcome you to Vienna soon.

13th WCPAS2021 & 13th IACSS2021 – Joint Congress
Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,
We are very excited to announce that the 13th World Congress of Performance Analysis of Sport (WCPAS2021; previously WCPAS2020) will be held in conjunction with the 13th International Symposium on Computer Science in Sport (IACSS2021) in Vienna from the 29 August – 01 September 2021.
Merging these two congresses now enables us to not only widen our scope and outreach but diversify our programme. As a consequence we are fortunate to host keynote speakers from the field of performance analysis and also invite internationally renowned speakers from the field of computer science in sport. We are confident that this new joint congress will provide a larger platform for academics, professionals and people in industry to present their findings and promote international exchange.
We are looking forward to welcoming all esteemed colleagues from both fields of research here in Vienna next year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – COVID-19
Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,
We hope that you and your families are keeping safe during these challenging times.
In the context of the current health crisis and keeping in mind the safety of our participants and staff, the organizational committee of the World Congress of Performance Analysis of Sport 2020 regret to announce that the congress planned for 01 – 04 September 2020 will be postponed until 2021. The venue for the congress will still be Vienna and is now scheduled for 29 August – 01 September 2021. By implement this delay, we will be minimising health risks and avoiding the current travel restrictions thereby maintaining the high standard and quality of the congress.
We would like to thank all participants, authors and contributors for the support we received in 2020. We would like to use this postponement as an opportunity to widen our outreach and presence in the field of performance analysis.
The WCPAS organizing committee is grateful for your ongoing support and understanding regarding these unforeseeable circumstances and we look forward to meeting you all in Vienna in 2021. About the congress
13th WCPAS2021 & 13th IACSS2021 – Joint Congress
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that from the 29 August – 01 September 2021 the World Congress of Performance Analysis of Sport & International Symposium on Computer Science in Sport will be held at the University of Vienna, Austria.
The program will include presentations from renowned keynote speakers and leading experts, as well as oral and poster presentations from world-class researchers touching on cutting edge subjects and newest technologies from the field of Performance Analysis and Computer Science in Sport.
The keynote sessions will be critical reviews of the most recent and key issues in Sport Performance Analysis and Computer Science, with recommendations for future research and avenues for real world application delivered by the most renowned academics and practitioners in the field.
The oral sessions will be themed to reflect the desires of the Congress participants to ensure that sessions maximise the opportunity to share, engage with and reflect upon cutting edge questions in particular interest areas.
The poster sessions will be organised to permit delivery of key messages by authors, whilst permitting time for all delegates to mix, interact and develop academic friendships through research and endeavour in sports performance analysis and computer science in sport.
